Carriers can perform real-world proof-of-concept tests at the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) lab in London, UK.
NETANYA, Israel, January 31, 2023 – Exaware, a leading provider of IP/MPLS network disaggregation solutions for communications service providers, announced that the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) has tested and validated Exaware’s disaggregated solutions for network peering at the TIP Community Lab in London, UK on December 8. Exaware has set up a test environment at the TIP Lab that carriers can evaluate and run against their own proof of concept tests.
Network peering enables two or more networks, including Tier 1 service provider networks and Internet eXchange Points (IXP), to connect and exchange traffic directly, which is a critical requirement for internet access.
Exaware’s network peering solutions have been deployed at the TIP Community Lab in London. Carriers can visit the lab to test and validate the following use cases for network peering: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) peering, BGP Prefix Independent Convergence (PIC), BGP Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI), L2/L3 services, and Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE).
Exaware has been an active member of TIP since 2020 and has participated in past TIP testing initiatives and Plugfests conducted jointly with the O-RAN ALLIANCE. TIP was founded in 2016 to develop, test, and deploy open, disaggregated, and standards-based solutions that provide high quality connectivity throughout the world.
The capabilities of Exaware’s disaggregated solution for network peering include:
12M+ BGP RIB (routing protocols) and 3M+ FIB (forwarding protocols)
BGP attributes for path selection, communities, local preference, and AS Path Prepending
BGP Multipath
Hierarchical FIB convergence (BGP-PIC, Prefix Independent Convergence)
MPLS and MPLS-TE use cases for L2VPN/L3VPN with PE-CE and VRF route leak capabilities
By separating hardware and software, disaggregated network peering solutions break vendor lock-in for service providers and enable innovation. With the ability to run on Broadcom DNX-based white box hardware available from a variety of global hardware manufacturers, disaggregated networking solutions save carriers up to 50% over traditional solutions and provide greater flexibility in network design.
“We are excited to be a part of the TIP community and offer carriers real-world proof of concept demonstrations,” said Ronen Hovav, CEO, Exaware. “With Exaware’s disaggregated network peering solutions, service providers can expand their networks for less cost and gain flexibility in network design. Because Exaware’s products are compatible with traditional networking equipment and use a familiar user interface, network engineers can configure and manage Exaware’s disaggregated solutions as they do their existing equipment.”
The product Exaware provided for testing at the TIP lab integrates a white box manufactured by Edgecore Networks© with ExaNOS, Exaware’s network operating system software. The test environment includes Cisco© and Juniper Networks© devices for peer connections.
“We are working together with industry to develop, test, and deploy open, disaggregated, and standards-based solutions that deliver the high-quality connectivity that the world needs, now and in the future,” said David Hutton, Chief Engineer, TIP. “By making available to carriers ready-made setups that they can experiment with, we are enabling a new wave of innovative TIP community-built solutions that can improve internet connectivity globally.”
The TIP Community Lab in London evaluates solutions developed by the TIP community and network operators to advance digital and economic growth in Europe through test and validation, based on open and disaggregated network technology standards. TIP’s community labs are located throughout the globe and are an approach to testing and deploying telecom network infrastructure, which encourages the industry to adopt open and collaborative practices for developing new technologies.
